Regimental stripe |
Foulard ('fooh-lard') |
Generally woven
using any number of weave constructions - Repp, Twill, Satin
- either
singly or together.
A good standard for being
conservative, for a
sense of 'belonging' to an exlusive club.
|

Usually
Pure Silk, these designs are printed with regularly- spaced motifs,
and are a safe bet for business
use.
But beware! Too 'wacky'
and they can do
more harm than good
to a carefully-crafted image

Paisley |
Spots
& Dots |

When the Paisley pattern is in fashion,
there are literally hundreds of variations - each of them ultimately
being derived from the shape of pine
cones found in Kashmir!
Darker grounds with small
patterns find
greatest favour.
|
Spots
& Dots of all sizes are very formal but they always look
attractive with a business suit
and plain shirt.
They can be woven, as
here, or printed.
